THE GRAND NATIONAL

The Grand National is one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events of the year. Arguably Britain's most prestigious horse race, the first Grand National was held back in 1836.

Every year, forty horses face each other on the renowned Aintree Racecourse. A tough 4 1/2 mile course, encompassing over thirty fences, it is regarded as the most eventful horse race worldwide. This Grand National tips website has been designed to give you as much information as possible to make you decide what your best bet is - before you bet!

AINTREE INFORMATION

Aintree track

There are usually forty horses taking part in the race but fewer than ten may in fact complete the course. Way back in 1928, forty-two horses started, and only two finished!

Aintree Racecourse is regarded by most jockeys as one of the most difficult courses to successfully complete as there are sixteen steeplechase fences which include The Chair, Canal Turn and the dreaded Becher's Brook. These fences are so infamous that their names strike fear into the most professional of jockeys! All of the fences except the water jump are covered with spruce and greenery, making the water jump stand out more than any other course in British horse racing.
